Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have engaged in talks to boost the flow of Kazakh oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, Report informs via Azerbaijani Energy Ministry.

During a visit to Kazakhstan, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov received updates on these discussions from his Kazakh counterpart, Almasadam Satkaliyev.

The two nations have been working closely, particularly between Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) and Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGaz, to initiate concrete actions for the diversified transit of Kazakh oil via Azerbaijan. This includes fulfilling the BTC agreement to transport 1.5 million tons of oil annually and plans to scale up this quantity.

At their meeting, the ministers underscored the importance of energy collaboration in strengthening bilateral ties. They highlighted the strategic focus on expanding energy partnerships into renewable sources, alongside traditional hydrocarbons, as a key agenda for the intergovernmental commission.

Furthermore, they reviewed the progress made following a trilateral agreement between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, which aims to facilitate the export of Central Asian electricity to Azerbaijan and onward to Europe.

Lastly, the energy ministries of both countries deliberated on the draft Agreement on strategic energy partnership, aiming to fortify their long-term energy cooperation.
