Azerbaijan boosts polyethylene exports by over 15%

Between January and July of 2025, Azerbaijan exported 79,293 tons of polyethylene in primary forms, according to customs declarations, Report informs, citing the country’s State Customs Committee.

The total value of these exports reached just over $88.5 million, marking a 15.6% increase in volume and an 18.5% rise in value compared to the same period in 2024.

During the reporting period, polyethylene accounted for 4.24% of Azerbaijan’s non-oil sector exports and 0.58% of total national exports.

Overall, Azerbaijan conducted approximately $28.842 billion worth of foreign trade in the first seven months of the year. Of this, $15.227 billion came from exports and nearly $13.615 billion from imports. Compared to the previous year, exports declined by 5.4%, while imports rose by 26.15%.

Polyethylene and polypropylene in Azerbaijan are produced at the SOCAR Polymer plant. The project includes a polypropylene facility with an annual capacity of 184,000 tons and a high-density polyethylene plant capable of producing 120,000 tons per year. The polypropylene plant was inaugurated on July 18, 2018, by President Ilham Aliyev and Italian President Sergio Mattarella, with exports beginning on October 5 of the same year.
