President of COP29: Azerbaijan and Brazil align efforts in preparation for COP30

The COP29 presidency is actively organizing events and initiating discussions on a range of key issues in close cooperation with Brazil and the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) as part of preparations for COP30, which will be hosted by Brazil, Mukhtar Babayev, President of COP29 and Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues, said in response to a question from Report’s Kazakhstan bureau.

"Speaking about cooperation with Brazil, our COP29 team is actively preparing for the 30th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP30). Azerbaijan holds the presidency of COP until November this year. Accordingly, we are conducting many events and addressing many issues together with our Brazilian colleagues and the Convention Secretariat," Babayev noted.

He also remarked that in many countries around the world there is a growing trend of skepticism toward the international climate process.

"Right now, we are working to mobilize all countries so that we are united in recognizing that climate change poses serious risks. Humanity must invest not only in mitigating the consequences of climate change but also in the capacity to prevent them," added Mukhtar Babayev.
