Azerbaijan rejects false allegations of polluting Bargushad and Arpachay Rivers

A recently published book in Russia falsely claims that the Bargushad and Arpachay rivers flow from Azerbaijan to Armenia and are polluted by Azerbaijan, Amin Mammadov, co-founder of the Environmental Protection First (EPF) Coalition and chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, said during the presentation of the digital map of Armenia’s mineral resources, according to Report.

“The author of this book is distorting facts and misleading the public. I have brought the book to Baku and have begun analyzing it. We are continuing our investigation into this matter,” he stated.

Mammadov also emphasized that discussions on the environmental damage caused by Armenia’s mining industry—including river pollution—have gained attention in Iranian media.

“Recently, Iran’s specialized environmental publication ‘Payam-e Ma’ published a comprehensive report on the pollution of the Araz River. The report explicitly states that the river is highly contaminated with 59 heavy metals, including aluminum, arsenic, copper, manganese, molybdenum, lead, and vanadium—primarily originating from Armenia’s mining enterprises.
