The Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis is celebrated in all countries worldwide. Solidarity Day has become the most important holiday for the Azerbaijani Diaspora. The Azerbaijanis and Azerbaijan-born members of the Diaspora mark this holiday.
The Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis was established at the end of December 1989 during the collapse of borders in Nakhchivan. The border poles between North and South Azerbaijan were collapsed. Meanwhile, Turkic-speaking countries held their first conference in Istanbul, during which they decided to celebrate the solidarity of the world Azerbaijanis. Taking into account the importance of the unity of world Azerbaijanis, the national leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, who was then Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, announced December 31 as the World Azerbaijanis' Solidarity Day. So, December 31 became the Solidarity Day of World Azerbaijanis. Azerbaijanis are proud to celebrate this day.
In response to the military aggression committed by Armenia against our country on September 27, 2020, the Azerbaijani people held the Patriotic War at the call of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. The victorious Azerbaijani Army crashed the enemy within 44 days, full of heroism at every moment, and restored the territorial integrity of our country. The glorious victory, which will live forever in the history of our national statehood and the memory of our nation, was achieved thanks to the unity of the people and the state, the high professionalism of our army, and intense political and diplomatic activity.
The anti-terror operation in September took only one day, even less than that. Showing professionalism and heroism, the Azerbaijani Army decided the fate of that operation in a short time, capturing all strategic locations and forcing the enemy army to surrender. Later, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, raised the National Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankandi on October 15. President Ilham Aliyev said in his speech at the military parade held in Khankandi on the occasion of November 8 - Victory Day:
“Thus, we restored historical justice. September 20, 2023 will remain in our history, just like November 8. After the Shusha operation on November 8, the back of the enemy army was broken and a day later, they signed the act of capitulation. On April 23 of this year, we fully restored our territorial integrity by taking control of the Azerbaijan-Armenia border in the direction of Lachin and on September 20, we fully restored our state sovereignty. The book of the separatists was now closed. There will be no room for separatism in Azerbaijan anymore. The state of Azerbaijan controls its entire territory today, and this has been achieved by our brave men standing on this square today and by tens of thousands of Azerbaijani soldiers. We have achieved this Victory at the cost of their blood and lives.”
During the 44-day Patriotic War and the anti-terrorist measures conducted in September, the demonstration of solidarity by the world Azerbaijanis is an indication of the existence of unbreakable ties between our people and our nation. It was these unbreakable bonds that demonstrated the power of Azerbaijanis in front of all world powers.
Courageous protests of Azerbaijanis living abroad against the insidious provocations of the enemy and anti-Azerbaijani circles, and selfless services in conveying the truths of Azerbaijan to the world community were a worthy contribution to the Victory.
