Today marks the first-ever day of Jabrayil city in Azerbaijan, Report informs.
Thus, the Day of Jabrayil City is solemnly celebrated on October 4 every year following the decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on July 31, 2023.
The celebration of the significant day on this date is related to the liberation of the city of Jabrayil on October 4.
On October 4, 2020, along with the city of Jabrayil, nine other villages of the Jabrayil district, Karkhulu, Shukurbayli, Charakan, Dashkasan, Horovlu, Mahmudlu, Jafarabad, Yukhari Maralyan, and Dajal, were liberated from enemy occupation.
The glorious tricolor flag of Azerbaijan was hoisted on the liberated territories.
Jabrayil district was established on August 8, 1930. It was abolished on January 4, 1963, merged with the Fuzuli district, and then re-established on June 17, 1964. Jabrayil is located in the southeast of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains, in the Gayan Plain and the Karabakh range. The region borders the Islamic Republic of Iran along the Araz River in the south. Its area is 1,049 square kilometers, and its territory is mostly mountainous. The banks of the Araz River were once dense with Tugay forests. The highly fertile soils of the Araz plains are dark brown.
Jabrayil district was occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces on August 23, 1993. During the occupation, the district consisted of 1 city, four settlements, and 97 villages. During the occupation years, IDPs from Jabrayil settled in about 2,000 settlements, tent camps, freight cars, and dormitories in 58 other districts of Azerbaijan.
On January 5, 1994, during the Horadiz operation, Jabrayil's Jojug Marjanli village was liberated from occupation. As a result of the Azerbaijani Army's counterattack during the fighting in April 2016, the Lalatapa hills were cleared of the enemy, and the village of Jojug Marjanli came under the control of the Azerbaijani Army.
On October 4, 2020, the President of Azerbaijan, victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, announced in his address to the nation the liberation of Jabrayil's administrative center and nine other villages.
During the Second Karabakh War, one city and 80 villages in the Jabrayil district were liberated by the Azerbaijani Army. With the liberation of Jabrayil from enemy occupation, state control over the Azerbaijani-Iranian border was partially restored.
Six days after Azerbaijan's victory over the enemy in the Great Patriotic War, on November 16, 2020, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the liberated Jabrayil district. The president raised the glorious Azerbaijani flag in Jabrayil and at the Khudafarin Bridge.
President Ilham Aliyev visited Jabrayil on October 4, 2021. The head of state laid the foundation of the joint service center of KAMAZ OJSC and Ganja Automobile Plant Production Association, the "Araz Valley Economic Zone" Industrial Park to be established in the East Zangazur economic region. The head of state also attended the opening of the 110/35/10 kV Jabrayıl substation and a complex of the military unit of the State Border Service in Jabrayil. The head of state laid the foundation stones for Jabrayil District Central Hospital, a school building, and the first multi-apartment residential building in Jabrayil. President Ilham Aliyev then met with members of the general public of Jabrayil. The head of state laid the foundation stones for the Jabrayil Memorial Complex and the restoration of the city of Jabrayil.
On May 26, 2022, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Fuzuli and Jabrayil districts. They viewed the construction of the Horadiz-Jabrayil-Zangilan-Aghband highway and attended the groundbreaking ceremonies of the Soltanli station of the Horadiz-Aghbend railway line in Jabrayil district and 330/110 kV Jabrayil power grid of Azerenergy OJSC.
On October 19, 2022, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited Jabrayil and Gubadli districts. The head of state attended the opening of the 14.2-kilometer Shukurbayli-Jabrayil section of the Shukurbayli-Jabrayil-Hadrut highway. President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva viewed the projects of the “Azerbaijan-Turkiye International Forestry Training Center”, “Smart Seedlings," and "Friendship Forest" Complex to be established in the Jabrayil district. The head of state and the First Lady attended the ceremony to release 18 gazelles to the territory of Jabrayil district under the implementation of reintroduction projects.
The head of state laid the foundation stone for the Digital Management Center of Jabrayil Power Network and viewed the construction works carried out at the 330/110-kilovolt international "Jabrayil" Junction Substation.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev also visited the Jabrayil district on May 4, 2022. He attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Khudafarin settlement in the Jabrayil district. President Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the 330 kV “Jabrayil” junction substation, got acquainted with the construction progress of the “Auto Leasing Azerbaijan” LLC in the Araz Valley Economic Zone Industrial Park, laid the foundation stone for Holcim Azerbaijan OJSC, Az-Tex-Import LLC, Improtex Karabakh Industrial Complex LLC, viewed the progress of construction at the 960-seat secondary school named after academician Mehdi Mehdizade, and laid the foundation stone for the village of Horovlu.
The last visit of the President of Azerbaijan to the Jabrayil district was paid on September 28, 2023. During his visit, the head of state laid a foundation stone for an administrative building in the city of Jabrayil.
According to the relevant decrees signed by President Ilham Aliyev on December 24, 2020, and June 24, 2021, a group of servicemen was awarded the medal "For the Liberation of Jabrayil."
The Jabrayil district was vandalized during the Armenian occupation. Houses and historical monuments in the region were completely destroyed, and trees were cut down.
