Prisoners to be able to make video calls in Azerbaijan

Prisoners in Azerbaijan will be able to make video calls.

Report informs that this became possible after President Ilham Aliyev signed into law the bill on amendments to the Code of Execution of Sentences.

According to the amendment, a telephone or video call will be made at the choice of the prisoner in the manner prescribed by the Code. Video meetings will be held in a special room.

Persons sentenced to imprisonment for a certain period will have the right to make a phone or a video call twice a week, and persons sentenced to life imprisonment - once a week for fifteen minutes.

Payment for long-distance telephone calls will be carried out at the expense of the convict or his close relatives. In the absence of technical capabilities, a telephone conversation or video call will be replaced by one short meeting.
