Mines planted by the Armenian armed forces during the occupation, the Patriotic War and after the liberation of the territories remain a serious threat to the life and health of innocent people, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman's Office said in a statement, Report informs.
According to the statement, the number of mine victims since 1991 has exceeded 3,400, of which 359 are children and 38 are women.
The Ombudsman's Office noted that these figures clearly confirm that the landmine problem, which is a major obstacle to ensuring a just and sustainable peace in the region, leads to gross violations of fundamental human rights.
