Azerbaijan expressed its readiness for lasting peace with Armenia because there are only two ways – lasting peace or eternal war, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, Hikmet Hajiyev, said at the conference in Shusha, Report informs.
According to him, during the Second Karabakh War, the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan was very close to the liberation of Khankandi: "But the country's leadership, realizing that this would also be a conflict between the army and civilians, decided not to do it."
Hajiyev also underlined the possibility of peaceful coexistence of Azerbaijanis and Karabakh Armenians as citizens of one country: "Now this is an internal issue of Azerbaijan. I have a message for those trying to apply to the Minsk Group to solve the current issues as a mediator: there is no global problem that requires both this group and a mediator."
