Christian world celebrating Easter today

Today, the Christian world is celebrating Easter, Report informs.

This year Catholics, Orthodox and Protestants celebrate this sacred Christian holiday on the same day. Easter is one of the oldest Christian holidays. The essence of the holiday is the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who conquered death. Thus, Jesus Christ destroyed the curse of death and sin over all mankind, and having come into the world as the Son of God, he shared human nature, all its suffering and even death.

According to tradition, believers bake Easter cakes on Thursday morning, prepare Paskha in the evening, take them to church on Saturday, and on the night from Saturday to Sunday, they make a procession with the cross, announcing the beginning of Easter and the feast of the Resurrection of Jesus. On the Holy Day of the Resurrection of Jesus, everyone sits down at the Easter table, treats each other with Paskha and Easter cakes, engages in egg tapping and greets each other with the words "Christ is Risen!"

In its position in the calendar and symbolism, Easter is based on one of the ancient Jewish holidays, Passover. In most languages, the words "Easter" and "Pesach" are used as related or homonymous words. Although there are different Easter customs in different parts of the world, common motifs include services, Easter greetings, going around the church. In the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches, Easter eggs are dyed red to represent the blood of Christ, with further symbolism being found in the hard shell of the egg symbolizing the sealed Tomb of Christ - the cracking of which symbolized his resurrection from the dead.

In addition, there are traditions such as egg tapping, the Easter bunny, Easter games, and festivals that are widespread not only among Christians but also among non-Christian communities. As in the rest of the world, Christians living in Azerbaijan also celebrate this sacred holiday.
