US Republican Congressman Paul Gosar, Arizona, commemorated the memory of the Khojaly genocide during his speech in Congress, Report says, adding that the congressman said that everyone should learn a lesson from the past:
"Madam President, I am speaking to commemorate the Khojaly tragedy that took place on February 26, 1992, 30 years ago. I am here once again to commemorate this tragedy in the history of Azerbaijan, the victims of those killed. The Khojaly tragedy took place during Azerbaijan's conflict with neighboring Armenia. In Khojaly town of Karabakh region, civilian Azerbaijanis were targeted and fired indiscriminately. As a result, up to 613 civilians were killed and more were injured and taken hostage.”
The congressman said that although it is no longer possible to change what had happened, we can remember the victims and remind the world that targeting civilians is not acceptable at all.
"We must learn from the past. The United States supports peace and remembers those who died in Khojaly so that no one will suffer the same fate again. Madam President, today we commemorate the victims of Khojaly with deep sorrow and we will always remember them in our hearts and minds."
