The Azerbaijani diaspora in Latvia is actively engaged not only in organizing cultural events but also in commemorating mourning days of great significance to Azerbaijan, Amil Salimov, a member of the Latvian Saeima, said in an interview with Report.
"As part of the diaspora, we are, of course, involved in public activities. This includes organizing concerts and cultural events, as well as observing mourning days that are important for Azerbaijan. We always pay due attention to them," Salimov said.
He emphasized that he tries to support young people and the diaspora as much as possible: "I am always happy to do this because, for me, it is important not only to integrate into the society in which you live but also to preserve your cultural identity."
"Of course, it is necessary to know the Latvian language, respect the laws and traditions of the country you live in. But at the same time, one should not forget their historical homeland, language, and culture. Culture, knowledge of languages, and the traditions of different peoples are a great treasure that enriches both the individual and society as a whole," the deputy added.
