Representatives of the agro-tech sector - large international conglomerates - have become sponsors of the COP30 climate conference, which will be held this fall in Belém, Brazil. This is completely unacceptable, since they are among the largest polluters of the environment, Report informs.
This message was expressed at an event in Bonn, Germany, by representatives of the coalition of youth NGOs "Kick Out the Big Polluters", which unites more than 450 organizations around the world.
"We demand that the rules of climate action that must be taken to combat climate change and curb global warming not be written by the main polluters," said Rachel Jackson, a representative of the coalition, at a press conference in Bonn.
According to activists, this approach will not achieve a just energy transition, which is one of the important goals of climate conferences. However, this situation is repeated from year to year and will probably happen in Brazil as well.
More than 5,000 government representatives and climate activists have gathered in Bonn to discuss preparations for the next major climate summit, COP30, in Brazil, for almost two weeks, based on the results of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP29.
