Lack of political will is the biggest obstacle to advancing climate action, Simon Stiell, executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, said in an interview with Report while answering a question on the main obstacles to achieving the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change.
Stiell noted that the obstacles are not financial or technical, although the most contentious issues in the process concern finance, technical aspects of negotiations: “But in fact, there are solutions for all these elements. What is missing is political will.”
