Russian official: Parliamentary involvement in climate protection is crucial

The First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia, Andrey Yatskin, has emphasized the importance of parliamentary involvement in the fight against climate change, Report informs.

Speaking at the Parliamentary Meeting held as part of the COP29 climate conference, Yatskin stated, "We support our Azerbaijani friends in hosting COP29, and it is crucial that the voice of parliaments is heard in the defense of the climate, as legislators represent the opinion of the people."

He noted that Azerbaijan has already put forward several concrete proposals for the preparation of measures to protect against climate change and safeguard water resources:

"As you know, our country, along with Azerbaijan carries out research and measures on protecting the Caspian Sea under the instruction of our presidents. I hope that today's meeting will enable the preparation of specific measures on climate change, including the protection of the Caspian Sea."

On November 16, a Parliamentary Meeting on the occasion of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), is being held with the participation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The Russian delegation at the COP29 Parliamentary Meeting is represented by the leadership of the Federation Council and the State Duma.
