Peter Tace: COP29 in Baku to be key event despite Western attacks on Azerbaijan

The US and France have no right to put pressure on Azerbaijan and other countries in matters of pursuing the environmental agenda, US political scientist and expert in international relations Peter Tase told Report.

"The diplomatic posture of France and the US towards Azerbaijan has revealed a higher level of hypocrisy and double standards. Since the spectacular military operations of the Heroic Armed Forces of Azerbaijan in liberating its sovereign territory in 2020 that has been occupied by Armenia for over 30 years, both Washington and Paris have maintained a neo-colonial position against Azerbaijan. France and the United States have not played a significant role in preserving peace, regional security and economic growth in the Caucasus Region," he said.

"They have no moral authority to pressure Azerbaijan and other countries on how to shape policies that reduce environmental pollution. It is unfair that the Azerbaijan Government is going through a difficult time in trying to maintain friendly relations with the US government and French authorities even though the last two continue to publicly humiliate and criticize Baku’s visionary policies and admirable economic reforms. COP29 is expected to be an exceptional global event and Azerbaijan’s government has paid, and contributed more than its share towards embracing green technologies and transforming the environment for the betterment of humanity based on cutting-edge research and a high level of accountability and moral compass," he added.
