Climate change negatively affects the tourism sector, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev said, Report informs.
Babayev made the remark at the First Ministerial Meeting on Enhanced Climate Action in the Tourism Sector, held within the framework of COP29.
The minister highlighted the necessity of comprehensive cooperation in combating climate change, stating: "Every sector must be involved, and tourism is no exception. This sector holds significant potential and occupies a unique position in the global economy."
He pointed out that tourism can serve as a catalyst in the fight against climate change: "Tourism is a vital source of income for many countries. However, it also contributes to carbon emissions. Additionally, climate change adversely impacts the tourism sector. Therefore, we will strive to integrate tourism into the global climate agenda."
