Ensuring proper fulfillment of financial obligations is the responsibility of each country, therefore comprehensive measures are needed to combat the climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and desertification, Brazil's Minister of Environment and Climate, Marina Silva, said at the "Special Events on Nature and Climate" session within COP29.
According to Report, she noted that Brazil plans to completely stop deforestation by 2030.
"From August 2023 to July 2024, deforestation in the Amazon decreased by 30.6%, reaching its lowest level in 15 years. Through this, we prevented more than 400 million tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, which exceeds the annual emissions of many countries. Today, we will present the complete version of the National Contribution Declaration, which reflects our vision for 2035," Silva added.
According to her, this document is ambitious enough and commits to achieving the target of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
