Azerbaijan is one of the countries in the region that acceded to the largest number of international conventions, President of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev said on the "Target" program on the AzTV channel, Report informs.
He noted that Azerbaijan has acceded to 20 international conventions, which are key documents on environmental protection and climate issues.
"These conventions are being successfully implemented in Azerbaijan. Our country has established itself as a leading state in this area. We consider this as one of the forms of regional cooperation. Here we are talking about cooperation with both the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia," Babayev added.
The minister emphasized that holding the COP29 conference, which will take place in Azerbaijan for the first time in the post-Soviet space, is a great responsibility.
"We will provide an opportunity here to discuss not only climate issues, but also aspects related to environmental protection. Among the key topics of discussion will be increasing funding, as well as the organization of this financial assistance by countries to address the climate agenda and combat climate change," Babayev added.
