Matthew Bryza: COP29 to become platform for developing new sustainable technologies in agriculture

During his visit to the Green Zone, former US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza spoke at the pavilion of AZCHEMCO, an Azerbaijani manufacturer of liquid and water-soluble fertilizers, Report informs.

During his speech, Matthew Bryza emphasized the importance of using advanced agricultural technologies not only in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan but also globally.

Currently, agriculture accounts for 8% of the causes of global climate change, and improper farming methods lead to water loss and soil degradation.

"President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, by setting a clear course for agricultural development and commitment to global environmental and climate initiatives, has created all opportunities for development in these areas for both public and private sectors. Today's enormous opportunities that the COP29 conference has provided Azerbaijan, as this year's global leader in fighting climate change, fully reflect the correct course of state development in addressing global-scale problems."

"AZCHEMCO is one of 15 companies worldwide that produces liquid fertilizers that can be applied with high precision using subsurface drip irrigation systems, which significantly reduces water and fertilizer consumption and prevents evaporation. When entering saline soil, the company's product - Drip Drop 369 creates channels that deliver water from subsurface drip irrigation systems directly to crop roots, ensuring greater efficiency. Finally, these products produce chemical reactions that neutralize salts, thereby converting soil that had become unusable due to salinity levels caused by excessive use of fertilizers and water in past decades, back into fertile agricultural land. AZCHEMCO's technologies along with the company's liquid fertilizers align with new agricultural development trends due to their easy absorption and lower water consumption during use, especially in light of water scarcity in the Caspian region. In turn, the company's liquid nitrogen fertilizers help reduce nitrous oxide emissions into the atmosphere, which causes the greenhouse effect and impacts global warming," Bryza said in his speech to the guests.

After the panel discussions, AZCHEMCO representatives presented to Mr. Bryza and the arriving guests the company's successes in this project, where based on laboratory studies by Azelab and Intertek, a reduction in soil salinity from 3.6 to 0.3, and electrical conductivity from 9140 to 291 was revealed, confirming the possibility of using the restored soil in agriculture.
