President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov has called on the international community for coordinated and well-funded climate action against the backdrop of the worsening climate crisis.
Report informs that Zhaparov made this statement during his speech at the Leaders Summit of COP29 held in Baku.
According to Japarov, only coordinated work will help achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.
"All countries should unite their efforts on climate issues regardless of their bilateral relations with others. We support the early adoption of a new collective target for climate financing, and we call on developed countries to increase aid to developing countries up to $2 trillion and ensure easy access to these financial resources," he stated.
Zhaparov reminded that Kyrgyzstan has put forward an initiative regarding the mechanism of converting foreign debt into sustainable and green development projects. "Kyrgyzstan is implementing several projects in renewable energy. Together with neighboring countries, we have started the construction project of the largest Kambarata hydroelectric power station in the region," he noted.
The Kyrgyz leader also emphasized the importance of efficient use of water resources against the background of intensive glacier melting, desertification, and diminishing water reserves.
According to him, the annual decrease in water resources negatively affects energy, security, economy, and other areas.
