Kyrgyz Energy Ministry: Development of green energy corridors - key aspect of solving climate issues

The development of green energy corridors and zones is key to addressing climate change issues and clean electricity generation at the global level, Kyrgyz Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibraev said at the investment forum on energy transition in Central Asia within COP29, Report informs.

"Energy ministries of all countries face a very challenging task: to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while providing the population with clean green electricity," said the minister.

He added that as part of implementing the green strategy and achieving zero emissions by 2050, energy ministries need to annually increase the share of renewable sources in the energy balance structure while introducing innovative technologies for production, storage, transit, and supply of clean energy.

"Joining the two declarations of the COP29 climate conference obliges participants to take comprehensive measures to reduce dependence on traditional energy resources and develop clean energy. This means creating a powerful and sustainable green generation system that is less susceptible to seasonal fluctuations and weather conditions. That is, building new wind, solar and hydroelectric power plants, energy infrastructure, improving human resources capacity, and transitioning to energy-saving, energy-efficient technologies," he said.

Ibraev noted that in this direction, Kyrgyzstan is experiencing a boom in the construction of small hydroelectric power plants and new solar power plants.

"The country is rapidly transitioning to a new era of green energy. We express readiness to support Azerbaijan's initiative to create green energy corridors, zones and clean energy storage technologies, develop a unified action plan and strengthen climate financing," he said.

He also noted that through joint launch of renewable energy sources, projects can achieve more efficient use and management of water resources in Kyrgyzstan and the region as a whole.

"These measures will contribute to strengthening energy, environmental and food security not only in our country but also in other countries and regions," he noted.

The minister also called for joining efforts to combat climate change.
