COP29 president mulls Caspian Sea level changes with UN deputy secretary general

The president-designate of COP29, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev, within the High-Level Week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, has discussed with UN deputy secretary-general, Executive Director of the UN Environment Program (UNEP) Inger Andersen cooperation on the prevention of marine pollution by plastic waste, as well as changes in the water level of the Caspian Sea, Report informs.

"As part of a week of engagements during UNGA in NYC, the COP29 Presidency held a fruitful discussion with Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the UNEP. They discussed collaboration on addressing plastic pollution, including in the marine environment, and addressing changing water levels of the Caspian Sea," COP29 press service wrote on X.

The COP29 president-designate also met with Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund, Mafalda Duarte, to discuss climate finance. The minister of environment also met with Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce, John Denton. The parties discussed the contribution of the private sector to combating climate change.
