COP29 NGO coalition to continue its activities in new format

The COP29 NGO Coalition, which unites more than 500 NGOs from nearly 100 countries, held a hybrid meeting on "Institutionalizing the Global South NGO Platform."

As per Report, the meeting emphasized that Azerbaijan's successful presidency of COP29 has created an important legacy.

The participants of the meeting noted that during its presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement, Azerbaijan came up with important global initiatives, for example, against vaccine nationalism.

The COP29 NGO Coalition members noted the important results of the international conference on South-South cooperation for NGOs from Non-Aligned Movement countries held at the initiative of the Azerbaijan National NGO Forum on 15 November 2024 within the framework of COP29.

Following the discussions, it was decided that since 84% of the COP29 NGO Coalition members represent civil society from least developed and developing countries, this network should already reach a new level. Given the great need for the continuation of Azerbaijan's global initiatives, as well as the approaching end of the COP29 presidency, a general agreement was reached to transform the COP29 NGO Coalition into the Global South NGO Platform.
