CDP director talks on multifaceted co-op under Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency

"Under Azerbaijan's chairmanship at the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), we expect to see multifaceted cooperation. COP29 will be an opportunity for Azerbaijan to make an important contribution to the fight against climate change and will lead to successful results," Sherry Madera, executive director of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), told Report.

She noted that CDP annually supports thousands of companies, cities, provinces and regions in measuring and managing risks and opportunities related to climate change, water security and deforestation.

"CDP has been a globally operating NGO for 24 years, with our headquarters in the UK. We interact with more than 23,000 companies, organizations and countries that submit reports to us. We do this based on the requirements of investors, buyers, countries and stakeholders. Each year we use the data submitted during the CDP reporting period through an independent evaluation methodology to stimulate activities related to climate change, forests and water security," said Madera.

She noted that the project's database is the basis for climate-related decision-making.

"COP meetings are sometimes evaluated simply as a platform for discussions. I believe these discussions are very important. Data, ideas and the decision-making process should be carried out through discussions. The success obtained at COP29, COP30 and subsequent sessions will be based precisely on this solid database. One of the main expectations from COP29 is climate financing. The delivery of financing to countries in greater need and ensuring access to capital will be determined based on the indicators collected in the CDP database," Sherry Madera added.
