Benedict Lagman: Commitment should be made to recycle 70% of organic waste

It is important to avoid waste incineration and direct more financial resources to existing zero waste solutions, Benedict Jasper Lagman, President of the Philippine Zero Waste Cities Network and Vice Mayor of San Fernando City (administrative center of Pampanga Province), said at the Global Methane Pledge event within COP29, Report informs.

"We cannot miss this opportunity to review the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). We must prioritize zero waste within the NDC 3.0 framework," said Benedict Jasper Lagman.

He also called on other politicians to invest in sustainable and environmentally clean solutions: "I invite local politicians to join the Cities Methane Pledge commitment to achieve long-term impact on Earth. Within this framework, cities, villages, and communities should commit to recycling 70% of organic waste."

According to the Vice Mayor, the zero waste approach is not just about waste management but is also a key tool for building sustainable communities and is an important step in fighting climate change.
