A presentation of the Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub, established at COP29, was held at COP16 on desertification in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
According to Report, the event was organized in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration.
Speaking at the event, Azerbaijan's Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Elshad Isgandarov, noted that special attention was paid to international peace at the successfully concluded COP29.
The ambassador recalled that Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency held a special Peace Aid and Recovery Day on November 15 and touched upon the importance of adopting the Baku Call regarding the matter.
"Although the climate-peace nexus was discussed at previous COPs, the establishment of the Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub at COP29, which brings together important initiatives, is an example of the international community's trust in Azerbaijan in advancing both climate action and international peace. This center will play a leading role in providing international support and assistance to particularly vulnerable countries with a total population of over 450 million who are affected by the devastating consequences of the climate crisis and conflicts," Iskandarov stated.
He noted that the Baku Hub has reached agreements on cooperation with several UN institutions and international aid organizations: "All these results give grounds to say that COP29 will go down in history as the 'Peace COP'."
