Aygun Aliyeva: Urgent and immediate measures needed to address issues of Caspian Sea

The problem of the Caspian Sea's shallowing threatens not only the environment but also millions of people who depend on it, and urgent measures are needed, Aygun Aliyeva, Executive Director of the Agency for State Support to NGOs, said at the forum "Caspian Sea and Sustainable Development: Environmental Protection" held within COP29.

According to Report, she emphasized that climate change and human activities seriously affect the Caspian Sea: "The sea is retreating every year. This is the result of factors beyond our borders, as the sources of rivers feeding it are in other countries."

Aliyeva warned that without urgent and immediate measures, the consequences will be irreversible:

"The Caspian Sea problem threatens the ecology and millions of people who depend on it. We are facing a humanitarian crisis that puts livelihoods, culture, and the future at risk."

She also emphasized the need for regional cooperation and global solidarity to address this issue.
