The amount of work done to speed up Azerbaijan's green transition is vast, Kanako Mabuchi, deputy resident coordinator of the UN in Azerbaijan, said at the presentation of the 'Azerbaijan Towards Green Development' report, jointly initiated by the Azerbaijani Economy Ministry and the World Bank, Report informs.
Mabuchi noted that green development and a clean environment are part of Azerbaijan's strategy:
"The country has already chosen the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2035. Last year, in Glasgow, Azerbaijan undertook to reduce greenhouse gases by 40% by 2050. The report 'Azerbaijan Towards Green Development' calls for more rapid steps towards green growth and shows once again that the impact of climate change and price changes on the world market is very serious. The report also states that timely steps are essential for Azerbaijan to overcome many challenges, eliminate uncertainty and start a more sustainable development path. We are working very hard with the participation of government institutions, scientific circles, the press, the private sector and international partners. We can achieve ambitious goals together."
Mabuchi said that the UN was ready to support Azerbaijan in fulfilling its obligations under the Paris Agreement:
"On behalf of the UN country delegation, I express my support for the steps taken by Azerbaijan in this direction. We will continue our strong partnership and remain committed to accelerating the process of achieving Azerbaijan's sustainable development goals."
