EU Ambassador: Development of municipalities is very important

The development of municipalities is essential for the country's development and citizens' well-being, the head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Peter Michalko, told reporters, commenting on the awarding of grants to six municipalities of Azerbaijan within the "Municipal Heads in Support of Economic Development" program implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with the financial support of the EU, Report informs.

"This is a very important and popular project funded by the EU and implemented in the Eastern Partnership countries. Its main goal is to promote economic growth in these countries, including Azerbaijan. This program is aimed at the development of municipalities of cities and regions," the EU Ambassador said.

According to him, the development of municipalities is crucial for the country, and he expressed satisfaction with the active participation of local self-government bodies of Azerbaijan in this program.

"Today we have awarded the winners, and we will support these municipalities, which will lead to an improvement in the social life of the population living in these municipalities," Michalko noted.

He stressed that this program is another example of solid cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU.
