Ministry official: Aghdam Mugham Center to restore pre-occupation fame of mugham in Karabakh

The Aghdam Mugham Center will play an important role in restoring the pre-occupation fame of the pearl of mugham art in the Karabakh region, Parvin Rustamova, a representative of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture, told Report.

The official noted that the teaching and promotion at a broad level in the center will contribute to instilling love for mugham in the younger generation.

The foundation of the Aghdam Mugham Center was laid in May 2023 by President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

A cafe, cinema hall, library, and two dance halls have been created in the center. The 507-seat concert hall has comprehensive facilities for organizing various cultural events, including mugham concerts. The center has 15 classrooms, an exhibition hall, a meeting room, and other rooms. An open amphitheater with a capacity of 615 spectators has also been built on the territory of the Mugham Center.

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation, led by Azerbaijan's First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, also makes significant contributions to the work done by Azerbaijani state in the direction of promoting and developing mugham. Traditional projects of national and international importance are implemented in this regard with the organization and support of the foundation.

As a result of these projects, Azerbaijani mugham has been included in UNESCO's list of "Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity."
