Uzbekistan is interested in using Karabakh's agricultural lands as a promising area for deepening cooperation with Azerbaijan in the agro-industrial sector, Davron Vakhabov, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, told journalists on the sidelines of the sixth ECO Business Forum in Shusha, Report informs.
"There is fertile land here [in Karabakh], and in this case, there will be interest from both sides - both Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. In addition, logistics costs will decrease. Now we have exports through Azerbaijan to Europe, but import volumes are low. This increases the cost of importing goods. If we achieve a balanced turnover, entrepreneurs will reduce logistics costs, which will have a positive impact on the cost of production," he added.
Vakhabov noted that the leadership of Azerbaijan is interested in joint initiatives in this area.
"We talked with the management of KOBIA and suggested: let us separately bring large farmers - experienced, competent - to implement a joint project here. For example, on parity terms: 50 to 50. Uzbekistan will invest, and Uzbekistan will be guaranteed to purchase products that can be grown here - those that we lack," he said.
