Azerbaijan to tighten requirements for use of agrochemicals

Azerbaijan plans to introduce new requirements for the use of pesticides and fertilizers in agriculture, Elkhan Mikayilov, a representative of the Food Safety Agency, said during public discussions of the bill "On Phytosanitary", held at the Association of Fertilizer Producers and Importers, Report informs.
He noted that priority will be given to biological methods in pest control.
Chemicals will be allowed to be used only if biological agents are ineffective. It was also noted that there are cases of both complete refusal of agrochemicals and their excessive use, which leads to soil degradation.
According to the draft law, fertilizers must be used strictly on the basis of agrochemical analysis.
