Azerbaijan backs global food system reform, urges climate cooperation

Azerbaijan supports global efforts to transform food systems and is ready to cooperate with international partners in addressing the climate crisis, said Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov at the 2nd UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4) held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Report informs.

Mammadov emphasized that transforming food systems is critical for humanity's future amid growing global challenges. He noted that climate change and other global threats pose serious risks to agri-food systems, calling for timely, coordinated actions and systemic transformation.

The minister stressed that science and innovation must be central to agricultural transformation. He advocated for joint projects that promote innovation and sustainability in agriculture, and encouraged initiatives for technology transfer and the sharing of best practices among stakeholders.

Highlighting the importance of COP29—hosted by Azerbaijan in November last year—Mammadov noted that the event resulted in a landmark agreement on climate finance, marking a key milestone in international climate cooperation.
