Goods from China to Europe are currently transported via the Caspian Sea along the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway line, with the Zangazur Corridor being considered as an alternative route, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu said, according to Report.
He noted that the volume of transport through Georgia is not very large, so the Zangazur Corridor is being considered as an alternative pathway.
"This corridor will extend eastward through the Caspian Sea, and we are working on its launch. The length of the Turkish section is 224 km, with its foundation laid in 2025," the minister said.
Uraloglu also stated that the Azerbaijani side is close to completing work on the Zangazur Corridor.
"In Nakhchivan, the main part of the work is already completed. Once all construction is finished, the Middle Corridor connecting China and Europe will be ensured through both the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars line and the Zangazur Corridor," he said.
The minister emphasized that the corridor is important not only economically but also as a shorter route to Central Asia and the Turkic world.
