Turkiye is ready to raise the issue of the sovereignty of the Aegean Islands if Greece does not stop "provocative actions," Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said, Report informs via Interfax.
"Either Greece takes a step back and fulfills the terms of the agreements, or we will do what is necessary," Cavusoglu said.
Turkish media noted that Greece recently held military exercises in the Aegean Islands. Ankara considered Greece's transfer of military personnel and weapons to be a violation of international law.
Cavusoglu pointed out that "if Greece does not stop violating the law, then the sovereignty of these islands will be discussed."
Turkiye and Greece are arguing over a range of issues, including the status of islands in the Aegean.
Athens and Ankara resumed high-level dialogue in January 2021, nearly five years after trying to ease border disputes in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.
