On February 24, a Turkish court sentenced Russian woman Yekaterina Burnashkina, who abandoned her newborn daughter at the Antalya airport in October 2024, to 15 years in prison, lawyer Aysel Kubra Polat told RIA Novosti, Report informs.
She noted that there is no talk of her extradition yet.
"Since we are talking about the incident on the territory of Türkiye, Yekaterina will serve her sentence in this country. But at the moment there is no final decision of the court," Polat said.
She noted that the lawyers will appeal the court's decision. On October 14 last year, the 18-year-old Russian woman gave birth in the airport toilet and left the baby there. The baby's life was saved by the fact that she was found 12 minutes after the incident.
A criminal case was opened against Yekaterina on October 15. Her mother was detained at the airport along with Burnashkina.
