Tokayev: Early parliamentary elections not planned in Kazakhstan

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that there are no prerequisites for early parliamentary elections in the country, according to the newspaper "Ana tili", Report informs via TASS.

"In my opinion, there are no prerequisites for early parliamentary elections yet. The elections will be held within the timeframe stipulated by law. Parliament is focused on long-term work. The government acts in accordance with the approved programs and plans, gradually moving towards achieving positive results," Tokayev said.

The president noted that the information hype about possible early elections is being created intentionally.

"As soon as our new government begins work, they immediately predict its imminent resignation. The same is with parliament. In my opinion, members of parliament work productively, demonstrate civic and political responsibility," he explained.

In March 2023, Kazakhstan held early elections for deputies of the Majilis (lower house) of parliament. They were elected under a mixed electoral system: 70% of deputies were elected by party lists, 30% by single-mandate constituencies. The term of office of the Majilis deputies is five years.
