Start-up and commissioning work gets underway at first power unit of Akkuyu NPP

The full-scale commissioning work has begun at the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP in Türkiye, according to Rosatom's Telegram channel, Report informs via TASS.
"Full-scale commissioning work has begun at the first power unit of the Akkuyu NPP (Türkiye)," the statement says. "Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev, who visited the construction site of the nuclear power plant as part of a working trip, got acquainted with the progress of the work. A delegation of Rosatom leaders inspected the construction site, including the facilities of the nuclear and turbine island of Unit No. 1, as well as the onshore hydraulic structures of the Akkuyu NPP."
It was previously reported that the full commissioning of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant was included in Türkiye's strategic development plan until 2028.
Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global nuclear industry to be implemented according to the "build-own-operate" model. The project is estimated at around $20 billion. Once the four power units with a capacity of 1,200 MW each are commissioned, each station is expected to generate about 35 billion kilowatt-hours per year and cover up to 10% of Türkiye's electricity needs.
