Scholz: EU ready to grant candidate status to Georgia

The EU is ready for expansion, including granting Georgia candidate status for membership in the union, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told journalists, Report informs referring to Georgian media.
An EU summit has started in Brussels, at which, among other issues, a decision will be made on granting candidate status to Georgia.
“The decision of the EU is that we are ready for expansion, and we will consider it in relation to the Balkan countries, Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia,” Scholz said.
“We support the expansion proposed by the European Commission (EC),” he added.
