On the back of the ongoing full-scale Russian military invasion of the territory of independent Ukraine, Russian troops began to withdraw some of their units from Mariupol, the US Defense Department said in a statement.
Report informs, citing UNIAN, that some Russian units are leaving Mariupol and moving northwest. The fighting for the city continues.
As a defense official noted during the briefing, the Russian military does not fully control Mariupol, and that is why they continue to carry out both missile and airstrikes. If the whole city was captured, there has been no need to continue bombing it, he said.
