Russia to host largest military exercises in 37 years

Baku. 28 August. REPORT.AZ / About 300 thousand servicemen and more than 1 thousand aircraft are planned to be involved in the "East-2018" maneuvers, to be held in September in Russia.

Report informs citing the TASS, Russian Defense Minister Army General Sergei Shoigu told journalists at a meeting. 

According to him, such large-scale maneuvers have not been in the country since 1981.

"More than 1 thousand aircraft, almost 300 thousand soldiers, at almost all ranges of the Central and Eastern military districts, of course, the Pacific fleet, the Northern fleet, are fully involved in the airborne forces," Shoigu said.

He emphasized that about 36 thousand units of military equipment - tanks, armored personnel carriers, BMP will take part in maneuvers as well - in the conditions as close as possible to fighting.

"East 2018 " exercises will be held from 11 to 15 September and will be the largest training event for the armed forces. Maneuvers received international status. At one stage, they will be attended by units of Mongolia and China.
