“We do not doubt that Russian President Vladimir Putin has put his nuclear forces on high alert,” a senior US Defense Department official said at a briefing, Report informs via UNIAN.
According to the Defense Department official, Putin’s step is unnecessary since NATO or Ukraine has never threatened Russia.
The Defense Department representative said that this step is very dangerous and increases the tension, but the US is able to defend itself, its allies and supporters in every way.
On February 27, Vladimir Putin ordered the Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia to bring the nuclear forces (deterrent forces) to a state of combat readiness.
