Medvedev: Russia to have more opponents if Sweden and Finland join NATO

Russia will have more opponents if Sweden and Finland join NATO, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev wrote in Telegram, Report informs.

“Sweden and Finland are discussing the possibility of joining NATO. The United States is now broadcasting its welcoming message to representatives of Northern Europe literally from all corners. What does this mean? This means that Russia will have more officially registered opponents,” Medvedev wrote.

He added that Russia’s reaction to such an outcome of events would be “calm, without emotion.” “If Sweden and Finland join NATO, the length of the land borders of the alliance with the Russian Federation will more than double. Naturally, these borders will have to be strengthened. In that case, no kind of non-nuclear status of the Baltic will be discussed anymore - the balance must be restored. Until now, Russia has not taken such measures and was not going to take them,” he wrote.
