Medinsky: Russia wants to eliminate root causes of Ukraine conflict

The foal of direct negotiations with Ukraine is to eventually achieve a long-term peace, eliminating the basic root causes of the conflict, Russian Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky said at a briefing in Istanbul, Report informs.

According to Medinsky, Russia views these negotiations as a continuation of the peace process in Istanbul, which, "unfortunately, was interrupted by the Ukrainian side three years ago."

"Our official delegation has been approved by presidential decree and has all the necessary competencies and authority to conduct negotiations. The [Russian] delegation is set for a constructive approach, seeking possible solutions and points of contact," he said.

Medinsky heads the Russian delegation in negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul.
