Kazakhstani expert: OTS increasingly asserts itself as important international actor

The informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), which took place on May 21 in Budapest, is of great importance, as it shows the desire of the Turkic world to strengthen its position in the international arena, political scientist from Kazakhstan Talgat Kaliyev told Report.

"For the first time, the OTS summit was held not in a member state of the OTS, but in an observer country. This fact demonstrates that the OTS is declaring itself as an influential player in the geopolitical and economic arenas. Now, in the conditions of global turbulence, the OTS is seeking to gain new subjectivity. This is an important step, and it fits into the long-term strategy of the organization," Kaliyev said.

In his opinion, in the current international situation, the Turkic world is also seeking to declare its position in order to ensure its long-term interests.

"An informal summit in a European country is a demonstration that the Turkic world is aimed, among other things, at cooperation with the EU, at partnership. That is why Hungary is considered a gateway to the EU for building the right dialogue," the political scientist noted.

Kaliyev noted that at the summit in Hungary, one of the key topics on the agenda was the discussion of issues related to the development of transport corridors between the East and the West, in which the EU is also interested.
