Iran declares February 2 mourning day

A state of mourning was declared in Iran on February 2 in connection with the death of a well-known cleric Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani, Report informs, citing the decision of the Iranian Cabinet of Ministers.
Official holidays have been banned in the city of Qom, where the cleric lives and works.
A farewell ceremony will be held in Qom tomorrow, and his body will be taken to the Iraqi city of Karbala for burial.
Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani, the author of several notable books on Shia jurisprudence, died from cardiac arrest on February 1, 2022, at the age of 103.
