The Hungarian government has suspended the issuance of work visas to citizens of Armenia, Georgia and the Philippines, effective immediately.
According to Reuters, cited by Report, government spokesperson Vanda Szondi said the measure is part of efforts to tighten regulations governing the employment of foreign workers amid concerns that an influx of overseas labor may be limiting wage growth for Hungarian employees.
She described the decision as the first step in a broader policy aimed at regulating the inflow of foreign workers into the country.
At the same time, foreign nationals already working in Hungary will still be able to apply for extensions of their permits, while applications submitted before the new rules took effect will continue to be processed under the existing procedures.
