The parliamentary majority of Georgia appealed to the US Embassy in Tbilisi and Ambassador Robin Dunnigan with a demand to consider the issue of lifting sanctions on Georgian judges, the executive secretary of the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party, Mamuka Mdinaradze, said, Report informs via Georgian media.
The United States imposed visa restrictions on three sitting judges Mikhail Chinchaladze, Levan Murusidze, Irakli Shengelia and one former judge Valerian Tsertsvadze for “involvement in significant corruption” on April 5, 2023. Since then, Georgian authorities have repeatedly called on the US State Department to provide evidence.
“On behalf of the parliamentary majority, we want to appeal to the local representative of our partner country and friend - the embassy, Madam Ambassador. And we hope that during her tenure as ambassador, this issue will be objectively resolved so that a dialog begins and sanctions are lifted, imposed by the United States against judges,” Mdinaradze said.
According to him, there is still no evidence that would confirm the relevance of these sanctions, not to mention any conditions and real grounds for imposing them.
