EU ready to grant Ukraine candidate status, says EP President

“European Union is ready to open doors to Ukraine and grant candidate status,” said President of European Parliament Roberta Metsola on the eve of the EU summit, Report informs, citing UNIAN.

"For me, Ukraine is Europe. This week is very crucial. We are ready to open a wide door to Ukraine, and I look forward to embracing our Ukrainian brothers and sisters with our families, " the President of the European Parliament stressed.

Metsola also expressed confidence that Ukraine will be a candidate for EU membership: "I am confident that all the necessary steps will be taken."

The leaders of European countries must decide at the summit on June 23-24 to grant Ukraine candidate status for EU membership.
